Lighting

During this session, we went to the studio where we would shoot to create the lighting set ups for our scenes.

We needed one person standing in, two people moving the lights and another by the lighting desk changing the colours or intensity of the lights.

Learning how to light
There were three parts to changing the lighting on the lights, these were; tilt, pan or spot. These were colour coded so it was fairly easy to learn.

At the lighting desk, you could change the intensity of the lights and the colours of them by changing the numbers on them.

Lighting Desk

For me it was quite easy to get a hang of due to a sheet that showed us the positions of the lights and the numbers designated to each light. For the colours there was a sheet that gave us the numbers for each colours.

The lighting session was very useful, we came to the conclusion of:

  • 50s we would have a red set up- referencing the red lipstick worn in the era.
  • 70s would be purple- we associated this with the disco for Saturday Night Fever.
  • 80s we used orange- this was associated with school as we were referencing 'The Breakfast Club'
  • 90s was green- referencing 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S'
  • Mordern was blue- this represented the emergence of technology.
  • Band was white- having it neutral
